Complete one short shot to learn how Rolin works. You will prepare a shot, generate or import footage, place it on a timeline and export a video.
Before you begin
Prepare a short story and a usable reference image. You can also use an existing video to learn editing first. AI generation requires an account, a connection, the appropriate permissions and available balance. Cost depends on the model and settings.
1. Create a project and check the episode
Create and name a project from Home. Once it opens, check the active episode. A project organizes the whole production; each episode has its own screenplay, shots and timeline. See Projects and episodes.
2. Prepare a short screenplay
Open Screenplay. Choose Freeform for an outline or prose, WGA for a standard screenplay, or AV for a script organized around picture and sound.
For example: “On a rainy night, Lin enters the old newsroom and finds a desk lamp still on.” Start with one scene and one or two shots so you can inspect the results easily.
3. Create the shot
Open the shot list, add a scene and a shot, and describe the picture, action and sound. Alternatively, lock the screenplay, use the AI assistant on the shot-list page to generate suggestions, then review and apply them.
To keep a person or place consistent across shots, prepare it in Assets first.
4. Prepare an image and generate video
Open Video and select your scene and shot. Choose Keyframe in the prompt panel to prepare an image, or use an existing one. Switch the target to Video, then select a generation mode and a model that supports your inputs.
For your first attempt, use one reference image and a short direction such as “The character slowly pushes the door open as the camera moves gently forward.” Check duration, aspect ratio and quality, then generate.
Track the job in the task center. To skip generation, import an existing video into this shot instead.
5. Select a Take
Play the result and inspect the action and image. Add promising results to versions, then adopt the one you want to use. Each shot has one adopted Take at a time.
6. Place it on the timeline
Open Editing. Find the adopted shot in the media library, then drag it to a video track or append it. Adoption updates available media; it does not automatically assemble your timeline.
Play it back and trim the beginning or end if needed. Adopting a different ordinary Take does not automatically replace clips already in the edit.
7. Export and check
Export the edited video as MP4. Open the file and check the picture, sound and duration.
You can now add more shots, audio and subtitles. See Editing, or check the FAQ if you get stuck.
When you need a sharper result
Select a Take you like, then upscale it to 2K or 4K in Video. The result is a new Take; the original remains, and you decide whether to adopt the result.
If the edit already uses its source Take, adopting the upscaled result asks whether to replace those clips. Confirming preserves their in/out points and timeline positions. Initial timeline assembly remains manual. See Video.
