Bring images, videos, text and sketches together to develop the mood, characters, spaces and visual direction of your production.
Create a canvas
Open Inspiration and use canvas management to create a canvas. Organize canvases by topic, such as “Rainy-night palette,” “Costume references” or “Newsroom,” then switch between them as you work.
Add references
Use the add-image action, drop files or paste supported media onto the canvas. You can try dragging images from a browser. If the website does not expose a readable image source, download the image and import the local file.
Add notes to explain why a reference matters, such as “Keep the room cool, with warm light on the character.” Sketch composition or movement, and use layers to control stacking, visibility and locking.
Discuss with members
Place a comment near the reference you want to discuss. In a collaborative project, shared content, comments and member pointers help the team work around the same material.
A card or text can arrive before its original image or video finishes downloading. Wait for the media before judging quality or deciding it is missing. See Collaboration and sync.
Use references for generation
In a supported generation input, choose Project assets and select available images or videos from prep notes. Whether you can use an item depends on the destination’s media type and the selected model’s input support.
Common questions
Why can’t I move a locked layer? Unlock it in the layer controls. If the project itself is read-only, check permissions and sync messages first.
Why does an image start blurry? A browsing preview can arrive before the original. Generation inputs may still need the full file.
Can I make the actual storyboard here? Open the 2D canvas from the shot or storyboard’s source selector so the result is saved to that shot. See Canvas and reference tools for the different canvas purposes.
