Write or import the current episode’s story, then use a confirmed draft for shot planning.
Choose a format
When an episode has no format yet, choose the one that fits your material.
| Format | Best suited to | How you edit |
|---|---|---|
| WGA | Standard film and television screenplays | Scene headings, action, character names, dialogue and other elements |
| AV | Commercials and other audiovisual scripts | Columns for picture, sound and production content |
| Freeform | Outlines, prose and informal drafts | Plain text paragraphs without screenplay element types |
Freeform is useful when you want to preserve the source wording before structuring the production. It does not provide rich text styling.
Write or import
Edit directly or choose Import in the toolbar. Import rules and export options depend on the selected format; check the import dialog’s supported formats and preview.
Freeform extracts text from TXT, Markdown, DOCX, ODT, RTF, PDF and FDX. FDX imports as text only in this mode. Import replaces the current full text, so read the replacement and comment-removal confirmation first. Image-only PDFs are not automatically converted to editable text.
WGA uses screenplay elements. AV uses the corresponding picture, sound and other columns. The same file extension does not mean all three modes import it in the same way.
Navigate, find and comment
Use the left navigation to locate content. Freeform shows page thumbnails; WGA follows screenplay structure. Find locates words or phrases, while undo and redo handle editing changes.
Use comments for discussion. When a draft is locked, its body is protected from ordinary editing while comments remain available according to permissions.
Lock and unlock
- Review the text and confirm this is the draft you want to use for production.
- Choose Lock in the toolbar.
- Open the shot list to request AI shot planning, or continue planning manually.
- To change the body, an authorized member must unlock it, edit it and lock it again.
WGA locking works with scene numbering. AV and Freeform locking do not issue WGA-style official scene numbers. Locking does not itself generate character images, storyboards or videos.
AI planning from Freeform first divides the text into scenes, then suggests shots. After changes to the screenplay, old suggestions may be out of date and need review before applying.
Export
Choose Export and use an output offered by the current format. Freeform provides TXT and PDF. WGA’s FDX exchange preserves screenplay structure; a Freeform text export is not a substitute for it.
